Do you have emotional vampires in your life? You know that one person you have just had contact with and now you feel you need a nap because you are so drained? They are not really interested in anything in your life, and they only contact you to tell you what is going on in their drama filled life.

If someone is not giving you positive energy with their friendship, then they are draining you and that is just a fact. Now part of being a good friend is being there for your friend when they are going through a rough time, but these times should be short lived, not an every day drama filled Lifetime movie. If you find you are constantly giving your friend the same advice every time you talk and they are telling you of their victim stories, then it is time to move on. You have given them good advice and maybe even given them names and numbers of people that can help them, but they keep doing the same thing with the same people, ending up in the same situation. Time to get out!

There comes a time when you have to realize that some people live for drama. They don’t know how to live in peace and tranquility.  Do you have that person that never contacts you on important occasions, but only contacts you when they need something? This is not someone you need in your life. I’ve had to personally get these people out of my life by blocking them on social media, by trying to block their phone numbers, but as true to their drama filled life they change their numbers on such a regular basis you can barely keep up with the blocking. That’s a sure sign of an emotional vampire.

You have to ask what is this person giving to me? If you are not surrounding yourself with people better than yourself then you are going downhill and that is just how I feel. Some people might say that this is pretty harsh, but I try to surround myself by people that can teach me something new in some way. Just as you don’t let your children hang around kids with different values such as bad grades, not showing up for school, you shouldn’t let yourself be in the wrong crowd as well.

There have been times when I have been duped and found out later that the person I was beginning to hang out with did not live by the same standards as I do such as following simple social rules, and living with certain values and integrity which leave you satisfied and content.  This is the main rule, do you feel satisfied and content with your friend or have you just been drained by their emotional stories?

Take a look at who is in your circle of friends. Do you have Emotional Vampires? If so, take action today.
